Coach Ashley Samaniego

Purple Belt

Coach Ash was raised in the beautiful island of Guam. In 2007, shortly after high school, he joined the U.S. Marines and left home for a future. After completing five years of honorable service, Ash moved to Los Angeles, CA in 2012. Ash always enjoyed boxing, muay thai and Brazilian jiu jitsu on occasion during his time in the Marines. However, it wasn’t until early 2013, in Los Angeles, where Ash was bitten by the “jiu jitsu bug”; he began training strictly brazilian jiu jitsu consistently from then on. In November 2014, Ash made a move to train with Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles, from whom he received his purple belt from. He has competed, won, and medaled in various Brazilian jiu jitsu organizations such as the IBJJF, NABJJF, and the JJWL, to name a few. Aside from jiu jitsu, Ash is currently a certified Personal Trainer, a diligent college student, a loving father, and an awesome husband. Ash is expected to obtain his Bachelor of Science on May of 2017 in Kinesiology with Honors. He foresees himself becoming a World champion, owning his own fitness facility, and becoming a military officer.

His favorite quote is, “The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion, when no one else is watching” by Anson Dorrance.
