I began my Jiu-Jitsu journey in 2011 at Sidyodtong in Los Angeles, training in Muay Thai. A friend convinced me to try a BJJ class. I quickly became hooked on the sport’s strategic nature. In 2012, I left Sidyodtong and started training at a BJJ-only gym, where I met my current professor, Ben Zhuang. In 2016, I left that gym as a blue belt and joined School Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In 2021, I was promoted to black belt by Ben.

In 2011, my Jiu-Jitsu journey started at Sidyodtong in Los Angeles while training Muay Thai. I was invited by a friend to try BJJ, and I became hooked on the chess-like aspect of the sport. Later, I trained exclusively in BJJ at a Pasadena gym, where I saw my current professor, Ben Zhuang, receive his purple belt. In 2017, I joined School Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was promoted to black belt on my 36th birthday in 2021.

A few years ago, my friend invited me to School. He praised the gym for its knowledgeable instructors and family-like atmosphere. He couldn’t have been more right! Despite having no experience, I instantly fell in love. I’m blessed to work with amazing coaches; I credit much of what I know to watching them teach the kids class.
